SIMPLE TIPS FOR KEEPING YOUR DRAINS CLOG-FREE

Drain clogs are a fact of life, and you will eventually run into a backed up drain in your home. While backed up drains may be inevitable, they should not be a regular issue. If they are, it is likely that user error is playing a role in the clogging of your drains.

The professional plumbers on our team can effectively unclog your drains for you. Ideally, though, you’ll take precautions to help prevent clogged drains in the first place. Here are a few tips to help you avoid clogged drains in Phoenix, AZ.

USE DRAIN COVERS

The most obvious way in which to prevent clogged drains is to simply keep items that shouldn’t go down your drains out of them! It sounds easier than it really is, though. Sometimes plates are not cleared before being dropped in the sink, and you may rush through the dishes some nights on auto-pilot. By ensuring that you always have your drain covers in place, you can prevent materials that frequently cause clogs from heading down the drain.

POUR OUT FAT, OIL, AND GREASE

Keep a receptacle into which you can pour fat, oil, and grease on hand. Empty soup cans do the job perfectly. While these materials may be liquid when warm, they will cool down as they settle in the drain. When this happens, they congeal. This can cause blockages as the congealed fats collect other debris that makes it down the drain, and the problem will snowball from there.

BRUSH YOUR HAIR BEFORE SHOWERING

When you go to climb into the shower, brush your hair out before doing so. Hair is the most common cause of clogs in the bathtub or shower. When you brush your hair before you bathe, you can get the loose strands out before they get washed down the drain.
